This week I want to focus on the topic of women in sports, and somewhat of a brief history. It seems to me that we have truly come just so far that we do now have a woman's football league.

Women have been involved in sports in some way since just about as far back as we can go. Back in 776 B.C. The first Olympic games were held in ancient Greece, and well women were excluded, but instead of giving up they created there own games "The Games of Hera". Since that very point in time women began weaving there way in and out of the sports arena. Did you know that in 1722 a British women fighter by the name of Elizabeth Wilkinson entered the boxing ring, Amazing! In 1869 Frenchwomen start entering into cycling contests. In 1886 the first known women s lacrosse games is played. But it was not until the decade from 1890-1900 that athletic activity for women began to become popular as women bought and rode bicycles can you imagine that, you could make a case that the invention for the bicycle actually spurred the movement of women s sports. As you can see its been quite the tumultuous past for women in sports , the road has not been easy Ladies like Billie Jean King and Althea Gibson paved the way for other ladies down the line. Now we have come just so far as to have the LFL. I think that in a way it almost takes things to a whole new level. I never thought I would see the day that women would truly be playing football in an aggressive and organized league. Its an amazing inspiration to see how far they have come .
I think that there is a lot to be said for the women in sports that are playing hard and proving to everyone that they too can play the sport. They aren't looking for a hand up and the good ol' pat on the back. They just play for the love of the game and the look on your face when they blow past you. Thank you ladies.

Wearing Too Much? Really?

The latest news in the LFL was very shocking to me! Lingerie Football League Executives, just recently put two of the best players in the entire league on probation and for what? Drum roll please......for wearing too much clothing!

During a recent photo shoot, the players took part in a photo shoot for New Times, but according to league executives it was a bust!

Miami Caliente's quarterback Anoka Dixon and receiver Tina Caccavale, they were photographed in their uniforms, but they were wearing shoulder pads. and as a result of wearing the pads, they were both place on probation.

During the games, the players must wear their equipment; shoulder pads, helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads. So what did they really violate? According to the LFL, when u partake in a photo shoot whether individual or a team photo, the girls are usually covered in baby oil and pose practically in their bra and underwear.

Did they really do anything wrong? Personally I think it was refreshing in a way to see them as tough girls that love to play the sport, a real athletic woman, rather than a model and trying extra hard to be sexier.

My Two Cents

This week I want to add in "my two cents" on what Brian was saying about the press release from Mitchell Mortanza ( LFL chairman / Commissioner ) . As I read through the statement I was feeling great excitement with a little fear mixed in.
I want to begin by saying that I think the LFL has done quite an amazing job. They beat their attendance projections in the 2009 season by 30% and were able to bring in enough revenue to continue on into what will soon be the 2010 season. The thing that excites me the most about this article is where it would appear he league is headed.

"THROUGHOUT THE SPRING AND SUMMER MONTHS WE WILL BE ANNOUNCING MANY EXCITING NEW VENTURES SUCH AS INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION GAMES, SPONSORS, TELEVISION REALITY SERIES, AND LFL FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL GAMES BEING BRAODCAST ON A MAJOR CABLE BROADCAST NETWORK. THESE ARE CERTAINLY EXCITING TIMES AT THE LEAGUE WITH MORE OPPORTUNITIES BEING PRESENTED THAN WE CAN PERSUE."

I have to ask myself when I read this though, how much of this will really pan out? My response would have to be that the league has already beaten any expectation that were placed upon it by me, and what is to stop the league from really taking off? The league truly has set up on something of great appeal to men, beautifully sexy women who can play ball and fight for it. I would have to say that my fear is the same as brian stated in his article though. If the league begins to stretch to thin and focus to broadly I fear they will not achieve the goal they hope to. I believe the best strategy will be for them to produce another season very well again, and work on TV spots and the reality show. I think this would bring the most awareness to the US consumer and ultimately the cash influx the league needs to grow. We will have only to wait and see, as time will tell. Keep your fingers crossed and lets hope for the best. Till next time everyone.

PRESIDENTS ANNOUNCEMENT!

The LFL’s Commissioner (MITCHELL S. MORTAZA) came out this week to give an announcement about the league. One paragraph in particular picked my interest. The paragraph reads:

“AS A DIRECT REFLECTION OF OUR HARDWORK … LEAGUE WITH MORE OPPORTUNITIES BEING PRESENTED THAN WE CAN PERSUE.”

The reason why it interests me some much is that he goes on to discuss the many opportunities the league now has based on its ability to entertain the masses and still maintain a profit. Is the league not making enough money in the United States?

Now he is talking about possibly having international games, teams, and sponsors. Which is great but what I don’t think he realizes is the logistics or the issues of having these games in other countries. For example the same type of football over here is going to be a lot different then the football leagues from another country, also their culture might not support the teams and could consider the sport to exploit women.

Another issue I have with this is that there is a number of cities within the United States that still doesn’t have the LFL or cities that do and not that many people know about it. I feel the first thing he should do is hold a press conference in every city that the LFL has and get additional support from the community I.E advertising, sponsorship, media, and investors. Before the League expands to fast lets secure its survival here in the United States. Now if the only investors are coming from international companies than there is a big problem and the league wont last.

Professional Football with a Sexy Twist

At the inception of the Lingerie Football League, the public's comments and opinions were not exactly nice or positive in any way. "Tramps"; "Do these women have any self respect?"; and "this is a complete joke!" were just among the few comments that were made.

But if you look back at the interview I did with Kerry Warren, Harper Boiz, Monique Gaxiola, and Natasha Lindsey, you will think otherwise. A majority of these girls, and throughout the league, are former college athletes, grad school students, daughters, sisters, and mothers. They are just normal girls who love to play the sport of football. During my interview with Kerry Warren this is what she said the reason for her trying out "the thought of continuing a contact after college was my prime motivation. I was not sure how I felt about the concept of playing in my underwear, but I am comfortable in my skin. . . .". So there you go, they DO have SELF RESPECT! (I think that most of the girls in this league would agree with Kerry!)

These girls are anything but negative. They are an inspiration to many people. They are tough and sexy and they do a great job of showing it both o n the field and in their everyday lives. So for all of those people who did not have nice things to say before you even gave them a chance, it just motivated the girls and the league to work harder, succeed, and expand!

Don't Knock IT

Why is the LFL so appealing to men? Is it truly only because the women are wearing close to nothing? Is that really as far as it goes, well I don't think so.

The lfl spawned from the halftime shows of the NFL leauge. At first it was what looked like just a bunch of women in skimpy outfits playing football. The fans looked on gave it little attention and continued with what they were doing, however it didn't stop. In fact the games continued and continued and continued. Now I will give you this much, that there is not enough organization to the leauge and still from first glance it seems a little like a joke, and the league sure has its fair share of critics. Peaople will tell you the leage takes advantage of women, people will say the girls don't have talent Etc. However this is my point. If this was in fact a leage with women who had no talent and just looked good in skimpy outfits the leauge would never make it. The thing is its more than that, way more. When you really look deeper and see the hearts of these women you'll see that its much more than that. Yes the women are beautiful, but they posses a skill and determination to succed. That pairing together of 2 things men love is catupulting this leauge to new levels. They just opened a new franchise and are starting a new season.

If you follow the story deep enough you'll see what im talking about. I hope the lingire football leauge survives and the women continue to play hard.

The newest team of the Lingerie Football League, The Baltimore Charm, has introduced their new logo to their fans. There were 30,000 submissions for this logo and this one was the winner.

Also this week, The Orlando Fantasy has announced who will be their coach for their inaugural season, the person is the great Ben Bennett. Coach Bennett is the all time division I leader in most passes attempted, most passes completed, and the most yardage in a college career. His Knowledge should really put the Orlando Fantasy in a position to be successful.

More than just a Television Alternative

Who knew that a Super Bowl halftime alternative television special, the Lingerie Bowl, would be such a huge success? The Lingerie Bowl caught the attention of millions of viewers, broadcasted over 85 countries during the Super bowl Sunday festivities.

"Having successfully developed and launched 10 LFL franchises this past season, we at the league office have never seen this level of fan response and excitement around a new team," said LFL founder and Chairman, Mitchell S. Mortaza, in a statement.

Fans created a high demand in this "fantasy league" and LFL league officials responded. The 2011 season will be introducing two new teams into the league, the Orlando Fantasy (mentioned in February) and the Baltimore Charm! The name makes sense, because Baltimore's nickname is "Charm City". Last week, league officials met with ladies who are interested in joining the Baltimore Charm; open-call tryouts will be held on May 1, 2010; location TBA.

Not only is the league itself expanding from 10 teams to 12 teams, they were also discussing a TV deal. Normally during the Super Bowl halftime shows, only those who watch pay-per-view are able to watch the girls play and an alternative to that, is going to a game on Friday nights (during season), where you can watch them live! But discussing and getting a television deal with a network is not as easy as it sounds! We will keep you posted with updates!

Who is Mitch Mortaza

Who is Mitch Mortaza? He is the man behind the LFL. He is the man that came up with "the" idea. As a spectator at football games , Mitch noticed everyone leaving during halftime, then he realized that he might just be able to create entertainment to fill the gap. The Lfl began as a halftime show for football games but quickly became its own leauge due to demand from fans. soon leauge teams were popping up alll over the place and Mitch became a very busy man. Mitch is the man who makes the whole thing move, he reatins a 51% ownership of the leauge and the teams, however he brings in smaller owners in each area for each team. He has marketed the LFL as a fun friday night activity for the guys or the girls or both to come out and have some fun. I think he is on to something as well, who doesn't enjoy women and football. The idea has been around for quite some time to make a womens football leauge , however they failed. The AFL was one of these leagus, and it never made it. The difference here is that mitch mortaza has made one very smart obseration. He has little to no chance of competeing wuith the NFL, so instead of doing that and running into such rough waters, he decided to throw a different and less serious spin on the whole leauge. This has got to be one of the best ideas in a long time, however in today's worl many great ideas never make it. They lack the funding, the publicity, or the interest to reallly "take off" , but the makreting of the league has been done well and I believe as more people find the sport they will tend to like it. Especially when most have a team realatively close by that they can root for.Now we just have to see what happens next, where will mitch take the leauge

Fantasy Lingerie Football?

Want to Own an LFL Team? I know I do…what about Fantasy Lingerie Football? Fantasy games are a way to live out that dream. All the LFL players and their real-life performances are used to generate points for fantasy teams in fantasy leagues.

For example, we can set it up just like any other fantasy league by having a set number of team owners. The FLF (Fantasy Lingerie Football) league uses a set of rules that determines everything from team roster size to scoring method to schedule. You and your fellow team owners hold a draft -- i.e., fill your fantasy roster with real-life LFL players.

Then, each week you can go through your roster and you will be able to set up your own lineup for the next weeks game, don’t forget that you are setting I up on how well you think “your LFL Players will perform. The statistics your LFL players will be generate just like in the pros, and fantasy points are awarded based on the stats. The better your players perform, the more fantasy points accrue for your fantasy team.

Ultimately, these points determine which teams enter their fantasy playoffs and who becomes the season champion. With the league championship comes the glory to boast about it until the next season rolls around, at which point the other teams can smell sweet revenge.

Is the LFL really a sport?

There are people out there who feel that the Lingerie Football League is nothing more than a bunch of woman walking around in skimpy outfits. While the players are wearing very provocative clothing, you can also see that they take the game very seriously. The players usually are not worry about how cute they look making a play or tackle, they are more worried about trying to give their team the best chance of winning the game which is what sports are all about.

Nicole M Lavoi of nicolemlavoi.com says the LFL is nothing more than a league that uses sex to sell tickets. She goes on to say “More specifically, sexy images and sexy female athletes sell sex to young male consumers, ages 18-35. I would be really interested to see the market research—who are the consumers and fans of the LFL? (Any guesses?) “ While Ms. Lavoi might be correct about what is the LFL’s target market, isn’t that the target market of most sports leagues???

I can see how the LFL can be seen as a sport driven only by sex appeal but we fail to remember that many of these women are top notch athletes. Natasha Lindsey , Kerry Warren and Monique Gaxiola all played sports while in college. Kerry Warren played rugby, yes rugby, and Monique was actually part of the Mexican National Soccer team. As you can see the LFL is not just putting pretty faces out there, they are finding great athletes to represent their league.

Down, Set, Hut, Hut

The Seattle Mist became a full-fledged league in 2009. Their first year was great! They showed their talent and kicked butt, ending with a 3-1 record! We have already met Harper Boiz (linebacker) and Kerry Warren (Running Back and Corner Back), now let's meet the Quarterback #4 Natasha Lindsey!

Brittney: How did you hear about this league?

Natasha: I heard about it from a friend on Myspace. He sent me a message with all the details and asked if I would be interested in trying out. I've always been athletic and loved sports so I thought this would be a great opportunity to be able to play a sport again since my collegiate softball career had ended.

Brittney: When did you start playing football?

Natasha: I've always played street football as a little girl with the neighborhood kids but competitive football, started when I was one of 20 girls who made the Seattle Mist! it was definitely not as easy as I though it was going to be!

Brittney: What do you do during the off season?

Natasha: Right now I am getting my Master's in Halthcare management and hope to get into the field of healthcare. Otherwise, I will try to find as much time as I can to spend with my family and friends, they are my support system.

Brittney: How do you stay in shape and avoid injury?

Natasha: I stay in shape by working out at the gym 3-4 times a week, run four miles and lift light weights. I was never much of a fan lifting weights but after the season ended, I realized that it's very important to not only be in shape with conditioning but strength is also a large factor at being successful.

Brittney: Do you play any other sports?

Natasha: I played collegiate softball for four years at Eastern New Mexico University

Brittney: What motivated you to try out?

Natasha: I love football and I've always been athletic. It was a couple years since I graduated from college and i missed playing a competitive sport so I thought why not?! It would not bother me wearing the uniforms and I get to play a sport I love to watch. It also gave me the chance to meet some great girls and make new friends, which I am!

Brittney: What is the worst hit you have taken?

Natasha: I was hit hard a couple of times. The first time was our first game at home vs. San Diego Seduction, I ran with the ball and I must have had 3 Seduction players gunning for me because next thing I knew I was being tackled, landed on my back and my head snapped back and hit the ground, which felt like concrete. Needless to say, my head hurt for a couple days after that. The other hit was against L.A. (Temptation) and it was the same type of hit. I guess their defense was taught to go straight for the Quarterback!

Brittney: What is your most embarrassing moment on the field?

Natasha: My most embarrassing moment I would have to say was the first game! We'd never worn the new game uniforms before and these new uniforms were a lot tighter than the original ones we used for promotions. Needless to say, with every step the bottom drew an inch more and more up our butt cheeks and into our butt! I remember always having to pull it out but it always found its way back up there so by the end of the season, I got used to it and didn't realize that it was creeping!

Brittney: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Natasha: I enjoy working out, hiking, spending time with my nephew, family, and going for walks. I love the outside and any outdoor sports. I also love the sun, so when the sun shines here in Seattle I always find myself doing an outdoor sport. I also love going to the beach and going fishing.

Brittney: Where can we expect to see you in the future?

Natasha: I hope to play again next year. I am not sure that with one year, I got enough LFL football out of my system. There were times where it was hard work with blood, sweat, and tears, but I wouldn't have changed any of it (except for us not going to the Playoffs in Miami!! :). It was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity and it is something that I am very proud of and will be proud to tell my children and grandchildren. I am not always going to look like this (5'5 110 lbs) so why not take advantage of it? Plus, I have made great fiends and hopefully meet more great people next year!

SHOW ME THE MONEY!

Did you know The women of the LFL don't get paid? Instead they actually get a percentage of "the gate" ( income made from the sales of tickets) which is based even more on them winning or losing. Now I have yet to find solid numbers as to a percentage breakdown , but I know that if you lose you get paid a lot less. The fact that the sport is set up this way causes the women to play harder. Imagine how hard the players in the NFL would play if they began being paid per game. These women are forced to win or else suffer sever pay cuts. This is yet another reason that I love this sport. These women are rough , tough, and beautiful. These women have heart and they play for keeps. You may look on and see a cute innocent looking women, but beware in the next moment she could be busting out your teeth. These women are those women that other women just hate so much, they are blessed both in beauty and athleticism. This Sport is awesome

Let me now introduce you to Miami's hometown lingerie football team, the Caliente. The team plays at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida.

Now let's meet Miami Caliente's Team Captain, Tina Caccavale. She is a Florida native, born in Hollywood, Florida and raise by her parents and her older brothers, now you may understand her love and passion for the game of Football. Now let's get to know her and read her story!

Brittney: How did you about this league?

Tina: I heard about the LFL on Deco Drive back in October of 2008.

Brittney: When did you start playing football? And How?

Tina: I started playing organized football in 2001 for the Miami Stingrays, that is 11 on 11 full contact tackle football. I was always intrigued in football, I have two older brothers that I grew up with playing every sport rough.

Brittney: What do you do during the off season?

Tina: Work out, got to the beach to tan and shop, I also love to go out and eat fresh seafood.

Brittney: How do you stay in shape and avoid injury?

Tina: I stayed in shape by running, especially running stair bleachers at stadiums. I was just lucky enough not to get hurt. Experience may have also helped me. I know the proper technique of how to tackle a victim or catch and run a route.

Brittney: Do you play any other positions, or sports?

Tina: I am Miami Caliente's team captain. I play wide receiver, safety, and kicker. Off season I also play co-ed softball and flag football.

Brittney: What motivated you to try out?

Tina: I absolutely love everything about football and playing it. I also model part time. So the LFL is right up my alley and I wanted to try out. I did very well. I ended up leading the entire league in receptions on offense and interceptions on defense and the 2nd most tackles in the entire league of over 200 girls.

Brittney: What is the worst hit you have taken?

Tina: The worst hit was in game one on 9-4-09 in Chicago when I caught a really high pass up in the air and I was slightly pushed, in the the air!

Is the LFL here to stay?

When something like the LFL comes along, people are always wondering whether this would be a fad that comes and goes or whether the league would have some longevity. One of the best sign of a profitable league is expansion, why would a city be ready to join a league unless other teams are making a profit. The LFL recently announced that one of their new teams was going to be based in Orlando, FL.

The LFL held a contest for Orlando residents to see who would come up with the best name for the team, and after 21,000 submissions, the winning name was the Orlando Fantasy. I guess Fantasy makes a lot of sense when you think about women in lingerie but also when you considered Orlando being the home of Disney and Universal studios theme parks.

The Orlando Fantasy may be ready to join the league as soon as Fall 2010. The league expanding is a sign that things are going good, maybe the next step would be to try to secure a television deal with a known network, that would really open many doors for the Lingerie Football League.

The Dallas Desire is a team of incredibly talented women, and if the team as a whole was not a tough contender in and of itself they also hold the league's 2009 Mortaza Award ( MVP ).Her name is Erin Marie Garrett and she is #2 playing as running back. They also have what I consider to be one of the most under rated QB's in the league. Linda Brenner Dallas's Quarterback does not have the highest passing percentage , however all the rest of her numbers are close to if not better than other league QB's. They also have #3 Amber Ryan at Wide Receiver catching passes like she was born to do this. The team is great but still seems to lack a strong leader and some discipline as far as I can see.I mean they would have gone to the championship game had it not been for a major upset down here in South Florida to the L.A. Temptation. All in All I see Dallas as a very strong team, and if they will learn from this year, I think we can definitely expect to see them in the playoffs next year possibly a championship game.

Tampa Breeze!

Hey everyone, this week I wanted to talk to you about my favorite Team, The Tampa Breeze.

Tampa Breeze is my favorite because I’m originally from Tampa. Although this season was only 2-2, next year we are going to the super bowl! This week I would like to talk about a couple of key players Elizabeth Gorman (2010 Defensive Player of the Year), and One of the Best Passing QB’s in the league Denisha Crawford.

2010 Defensive Player of the Year! Gorman has a great tackling record with 30 total tackles, 17 solos, 13 assists, and 2 Sacks. She also has 1 interception and 1 Forced Fumble. definitely one of the best defensive players on the Tampa Breeze.

Lets talk about Quarterbacks: Brett Favre watch out!

Statistically D. Crawford is one of the highest rated Quarterbacks in the Lingerie football league with a rating of 156.2. D. Crawford made 27 Completions out of 36 Attempts, when playing the Tampa Breeze has a 75% chance of completing a pass, which is Awesome. Her total passing yards this season were 224, with average of 56 yards a game.

I would like to introduce you all to # 6 Kerry Warren of the Seattle Mist. It is hard to believe that at just 23 years old, this young lady has achieved alot. She plays a variety of sports like Rugby, water polo, soccer, basketball, and of course football. This young lady is very talented, dedicated, and passionate about sports. Lets take a look at her story and how she got this far!

This is what Kerry had to say when we had asked to be interviewed for this blog: It means a lot to be recognized for the blood, sweat, and tears that I put into the season. Not to mention, I had a record that someone found to be notable.

Brittney: How did you hear about this league?

Kerry: I actually heard about this league while I was in school at Central Washington University. Believe it or not , my mom called me when she saw the first try out on the news and told me that I should try and contact someone in the league about when the next tryouts were. My mom has always been one of my biggest fans and knows how much I thrive on high contact and challenging sports, so I took her seriously and sent an email and a few months later, I was informed of the date and time for the tryout. However, it was on a Wednesday, so I had to get cleared with my teachers to leave, meaning all my homework had to be done early.

Brittney: What motivated you to try out?

Kerry: The thought of continuing a contact sport after college was my prime motivation. I wasn't sure how I felt about the concept of playing in my underwear (nor was my father!), but I am comfortable in my skin and knew that I was in good shape and just used it as more fuel to train and beast out. I knew that the first step in getting others to love you is to love and be confident in yourself and I decided to step up to the plate and let the world know who Kerry Warren really was.

Brittney: What do you do during the off season?

Kerry: I am just working and playing the sport of my true passion...rugby. I thrive off of physical challenges, so I have to find things to give me reasons to train. Rugby not only keeps that passion there, it gives me a reason to keep my body in top physical condition which motivates me to keep pushing myself in training.

Brittney: What is the wort hit you have taken?

Kerry: The hardest hit I have taken physically was not a football hit. It was a rugby hit when I dislocated my shoulder scoring my first try (much like a touchdown in football). However, the most devastating "hit" in my football career as of yet came the day we were slated to play L.A. Temptation. I flew out that day with a team full of confidence. We had orchestrated what we believed to be a very successful defense that would stop LA in their tracks and clinch out playoff spot against Dallas for the Championship game. Who would have guessed that an hour before, after I had been taped and final game prep was done that I would get called into Mitch's office where she told me to strip down to uniform (along with about 5 other girls) for "inspection". It was ten minutes later that two very unhappy coaches pulled me into their office and told me that I had been suspended from play because of "weight issues". I am 5'6" and 135 pounds of muscle, hearing that there was a difference between athletic muscle and fat and that my body needed work because I was not "Playboy or Maxim Magazine material", hit hard. My body has never been and never will be Barbie-like. I am very fit, I just have a more athletic build and I was shocked to hear what I heard. Not to mention my team had to function without me and I felt guilty I wasn't on the field fighting with them...that had to be the worst feeling in the world.

Brittney: What is your most embarrassing moment on the field?

Kerry: Can this really be put into one moment?!! Unfortunately, the uniforms provided offered very little support and I happen to have a chest that most women would die for. I can't tell you how many times ladies would go to tackle me and get my uniform and "things" would pop out of place. If I had to pick the single most embarrassing moment, it would have to be when i had the ball and was running a play that took me wide and up the sideline. As so as the half cam to an end, the first thing I was informed was that I now had absolutely noting to hide from the team, they had seen it all! I was a little upset about it at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I just shook it off and laughed knowing that the Mist had emphasized the importance of family. With this in mind, I could rest knowing that it was a safe environment and my team mates and coaches lave and respect me just as I love and respect them.

Brittney: What do you enjoy doing on your spare time?

Kerry: SPARE TIME!!! When I am not working, training, or playing team sports, I'm usually rocking out to my ipod or spending time with family. My family has always been a very important part of my life and lately, I have been realizing that my little sister, Morgan is more fun to be around than I had ever imagined! There is a 7 year gap between us which has always been a pretty larger barrier in the past, but now that she is in high school and following my footsteps (hopefully she will learn from my mistakes before making them herself), I have really enjoyed just watching her and being there for her, should she ever need me.

Brittney: Where can we expect to see you in the future?

Kerry: Where the future will take me, I truly only believe that only God knows. I know that I will always be training for something. I know that I will always be challenging myself physically and mentally. I believe that in order to grow, you have to step out of the box and take yourself out of your comfort zone and I intend to do just that. I'd love to say that I will be playing another season of the Mist, but who knows if I'll make it past tryouts. Also, I am looking into possibly taking my degree in aviation managements and putting it into action in the US Air Force. Only God knows the plans He has for me. My job is just to take each opportunity and make it count and learn what I can in every circumstance. I have high hopes for my future, where ever life may take me. :)

Girls playing football?

Girls playing football? Professionally? You must be joking, right? Well no, were not joking at all, and to be honest it actually is quite fun to watch. I must admit however, when I first caught wind of the whole thing a couple years ago I was more than skeptical. In all honesty I do believe my words were" That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen". The thing is though that I never actually took the time to check out the sport. I think so often we love sports and we also love women, but the idea of women playing the sports is just a little hard for us to swallow. I challenge anyone reading this post though to take a second and head over to the official LFL website at http://www.lflus.com. Check out the teams, the videos, and the stats. You will soon realize that the LFL is in fact something different than other previous attempts. These aren't your average playboy bunnies trying to play football. These are beautiful women with a mean streak and a little extra aggression. They love to play the game and they love to hit hard. They are playing for the real true love of the game something that is all to often missing from some of the mainstream sports we watch today. People today I believe are tired of the same old sports with over paid players to scared to take a risk. These women however, are not scared and play with a passion that is refreshing to see these days. All I'm saying is that if you think its a joke dig a little deeper.Then I think you will agree that the LFL is toally legit.

The LFL Rules and Regulations Uncovered

Most people are not familiar with the rules and regulations of the LFL. I would like to explain to you the differences and my personal opinion of the rules. We are going to discuss these topics: Playing Field, Scoring, Offensive, Defense, Team Roster, and Time of Play.

First lets talk about the PLAYING FIELD, which is 50 YARD FIELD  8 YARD END-ZONES  30 YARDS WIDE. This is about half the size of at NFL regulation field. This works out very well since the girls are much smaller than NFL players. Also as a spectator its awesome because every seat in the house is able to view the entire field without bring binoculars.

Scoring is one of the most important parts of any game… Now, Lets discuss how it’s measured in the LFL. SCORING Touchdown’s is consistent to scoring in the NFL, which is 6 PTS. CONVERSIONS on the other hand are much different because teams can only RUN OR PASS; there are no extra point kicks. Now, if a team just scored a touchdown they have 2 options CONVERSION RUN OR PASS … Option 1: (2YD LINE) = 1PT or   Option 2: (5YD LINE) = 2PT.  Although there is no kicking for extra points like the NFL, I actually find it more enjoyable because I think it adds more excitement to the game, since they have to run or pass the ball only.

Next Topic of our discussion is going to be about the Offensive and Defensive players and there roles on the field, this is one the biggest differences from the LFL from the NFL. For both offense and defense each team has 7 players on the field at anytime. On the Offensive side the players positions include: 1 quarterback, 2 running backs, 1 down line women, and 3 wide receivers. On the Defensive side the player’s positions include: 2 down line women, 1 linebacker, 2 cornerbacks, and 2 safeties. Each team’s roster consists of 14 Active and 6 inactive players. The extra 6 players are there as replacements for injury or fatigue on the field. Additionally they help motivate other teammates during play.

The last but least thing you should know about the LFL is the time of play. Each team only receives 35 seconds in between plays similar to the NFL, but the Time of play is quite different it consists of two 17-minute halves, one 15-minute halftime and 8-minute sudden death overtime if the need arises.

L.A. Temptation's Monique Gaxiola

Hi guys it's Brittney! Last week I had the privilege to talk to Harper Boiz of the Seattle Mist. This week I am talking to #13, Monique Gaxiola of the L.A. Temptation.

The L.A. Temptation was crowned the Champions of the LFL, upsetting the Chicago Bliss 27-14. Here is my interview with Monique as she takes us on a brief journey of her life and how she got into this league!

Brittney: How did you hear about the league?

Monique: I heard about the league through a good friend of mine who tried out a month before she and I met. She happened to be my neighbor while I was in college at USC. I contacted the league back in August of '08 but didn't hear from them until March of '09. They held open tryouts which I attended and I made the roster.

Brittney: When did you start playing football?

Monique: I've been playing football my entire life. I have four brothers and we are all close in age so I grew up playing sports, especially football. I played a little in high school on the junior varsity team as the kicker. Every Sunday during the NFL season, our entire day is dedicated to watching football, so I've grown to love the sport. I use to tell my brothers I'd be the first girl in the NFL, bu the LFL just so happens to be the closest thing!

Brittney: What do you do during the off season?

Monique: Well since this is my first season off season, which started about a week ago, I plan to continue to train because we still have to make appearances. I took this past week off from training and eating right, which I enjoyed very much. I plan to join a flag football team to help improve my football skills for next season. Our league is beginning to grow so quickly and I know this next season is just going to get harder with the competition. There are going to be a lot more athletic and beautiful women coming out to the tryouts so I have to prepare myself for the competition.

Brittney: How do you stay in shape and avoid injury?

Monique: Well that's funny you ask because I played this entire season with an old ACL tear in my right knee. I had torn my ACL a year prior to football while playing soccer, but thought it was just an old knee injury which I've done before. I was given the option to have surgery or to play with a brace the entire season. I chose to not have the surgery and wear the brace every practice and every game. As for staying in shape during the off season, I workout 4-5 times a week. I run at least 3 miles a day along with weight lifting. I also workout with a personal trainer who helps me out with my football speed and agility. During the season, we practice 3 times a week for 4 hours, so the days we do not practice I'll do my daily workout.

Brittney: What position do you play? Do you play any other sports?

Monique: I play middle linebacker, running back, wide receiver, kicker, and offensive line. I played soccer my entire life from the age of 5 and throughout college. I played soccer for the Mexican National Team and also at USC. I was also on the Competition Cheer Squad at USC. In high school I ran track & field, cross country, cheerleader, a little football, and soccer.

Harper Boiz Second Interview

Hi Everyone! Its Brian and I also had the privileged of Interviewing "Harper Boiz" #5 LineBacker for the Seattle Mist!

We talked about the personal aspects of her life that lead her to the LFL, as well as a glimpse of her future. Enjoy!

Brian: Do you play any other positions, or sports?

Harper: I love playing defense. My position is corner but I can really play anywhere on defense (safety/linebacker). Since it's 7 on 7 and only 14 girls travel, you really have to know all the positions - so I can also play center and receiver on offense.

Other sports that I played growing up were volleyball, tennis and softball. I played basketball and soccer too but more or less enjoy watching those sports more than playing. I am also a dancer - did ballet for 18 years and competitive Hawaiian dance. I just thoroughly enjoy being active. In my free time, when I get to a beach I like to surf and have started to take up skateboarding and mountain biking.

Brian: What motivated you to try out?

Harper: My motivation for trying out for the Seattle Mist was the ideal of doing something out of the ordinary. Completely different and something that I don't think many people would expect me to do. I love being a sexy independent women and hopefully showing females they can do anything they put their minds too.

Brian: What is the worst hit you have taken?

Harper: The worst hit I've ever taken would have to be at practice, of all places. We were preparing for our first game of the season and one of my teammates was playing with more intensity that I was..... She dove tackled me, completely taking me by surprise because we were not suppose to be tackling at 100% being so near to the game....I ended up braking 3 ribs. It just hurt - bad.

Brian: What is your most embarrassing moment on the field?

Harper: To me it's embarrassing looking at footage and seeing my butt hanging out. They may sound stupid since I play in barely anything, however we are still athletes and sometimes I wish that the bottoms were a little bigger or the uniform covered a little bit more. It is what it is though, that is the whole appeal of the league and we probably wouldn't be as successful or have an many fans if we were playing in sweatpants :)

Brian: What do you enjoy doing on your free time? (Kids, hobbies, etc.)

Harper: In my free time I enjoy playing with my dog, Dolce. She is amazingly and surprises me everyday. I also love to run/do yoga/write/go out with my girls. I live each day differently. I'm a free spirit and love challenges. I'm learning how to skateboard currently and when the summer hits, I'll be learning how to wakeboard - the water in Seattle is too great not to be out taking advantage of it. :)

Brian: Where can we expect to see you in the future?

Harper: In the future, you can definitely see me next season playing for the Mist. I'm not really sure what else is in store for me. I'll be doing more swimsuit shoots and would like to get more into lingerie. I also love to volunteer at Battered Women and Children Centers and would like to get involved in the World Hunger Organization. I'm a vegan and would like to do more things with PETA as well.

Met The Player: Harper Boiz

Hey y'all. I have fortunately have had a chance to talk with several girls from the LFL. Here is part of the first interview from Harper Boiz of the Seattle Mist:

Brittney: How did you hear about this league?

Harper: I heard about the league from a co-worker. I have been a model/athlete all my life and they thought that I should try out for the team. I didn't really know what I was getting myself into at first but I made the cut back in Oct 08 and have been on the team (Seattle Mist) ever since.

Brittney: When did you start playing football? How?

Harper: I officially started playing football in October 2008 :). I played in the yard with my brothers and their friends growing up but nothing serious and I never knew the rules/play/routes/ that are involved with the game. It was not until we (the team) really started practicing in april 2009 that everything started to click. Watching a football game now is completely different for me. I know what's going on and can identify things that are happening on the field - I truly love the game- it's addicting and amazing- also a fabulous workout:)

Brittney: What do you do during the off season?

Harper: During the off season- I plan on resting up! I'm taking a 2 week trip to Hawaii in March and just having fun:) I am still training and running 4 to 5 days a week. Next season, I want to start out stronger and with higher intensity. Now that I know the game, I can focus on my skills and making myself the best that I can Be!

Brittney: How do you stay in shape and avoid injury? (season and off season)

Harper: Avoiding injury is hard, especially in this league. WE play hard; full tackle, with minimal clothing and padding. You just have to train hard and make yourself strong. Like any athlete, you push through the pain an take ice baths. On the days off oyu rest and heat/ice your pain away. I love to run; that is what I do for my workouts. I don't like to do alot of weights; cardio/yoga is what I like to do, it helps me clear my mind a stay centered.

INSIDE THE LFL

Can anyone name something better than the combination of football and aggressive half naked women who are super sexy...I didn't think so. Well that is exactly what the Lingerie Football League(LFL) is made of. The scoring is still the same as you would expect from the NFL, however the teams only consist of 20 total players ( 14 active and 6 inactive) playing on a 50 x 30 field, and two halves consisting of 17 minutes. Currently there are 10 teams spread across the United States. In South Florida you have the Miami Caliente keepin it real. Over on the west coast you have the San Diego Seduction and the Los Angeles Temptation. For all you northerners you can follow the Chicago Bliss and New York, and Philly fans can follow the Passion. This is just a highlight of the teams, and every team is filled with beautiful women with overly combative tendencies. Can you say "That's Hot", I hope so.

We will be covering the League and all the people involved in this blog, as we attempt to "go inside the LFL"I will be taking an in depth look at each of the teams, breaking them down to the basics. We will have interviews with several of the tantalizing ladies, and try to figure out what drives them forward, and who they really are. The Game was televised on Pay-Per-View and it was viewed by millions of people in over 85 countries. It was not until 2009 that the league decided to have an actual league that consist of 10 teams playing a 20 week season at major arenas and stadiums. Most of the teams are coached by former players of the NFL and most of the players also have a background in other sports.

In this blog, we will get to meet some of the players, coaches and other people working with the LFL. We will also learn some of the rules that differentiate the LFL from the NFL and how it affects the way the games are played.
